I've watched esports contribute to the development of my students' self-worth, academic efficacy, and everyday social interactions. The importance of digital citizenship cannot be understated in this newest generation, as much of life is lived online. As these interactions become the norm, starting an esports program seemed like the most reasonable next step. Since embarking on this virtual adventure last Spring, I have seen several tangible changes such as students gaining the confidence to be assertive in collaboration, the development of leadership qualities and attention to detail. Esports emphasize team growth and interdependence, as well as problem-solving. These skills create opportunities for those looking to form a career in this area and even obtain scholarships for college. Don’t let your students miss out!
