In celebration of Rocket League’s 10th anniversary, PlayVS, the leading amateur esports platform, teamed up with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and Epic Games to host Demo Days of Summer– national tournaments giving players ages 13-18 a chance to showcase their skills in the fast-paced, car-based soccer game.
The event featured both 1v1 and 2v2 formats, with solo play taking place July 7-9 (bracket play July 8-9) and team competition running July 11-13 (bracket play July 12-13). Hundreds of players competed for exclusive prizes, including a combined $300,000 in scholarship prizes to RPI and premium gaming gear from Corsair, helping make esports more accessible and supporting students in their academic and esports careers.
Participants battled through multiple rounds, with Leland Carrasquillo of Middletown High School in New York claiming victory in the 1v1 tournament and Jesus Garcia
From Penn Foster of Illinois and Jack LeDuc from ASU Prep Digital of Azriona taking the 2v2 title. First-place finishers were awarded a $100,000 RPI scholarship ($25,000 per academic year), a SCUF ENVISION PRO Wireless Gaming Controller, and official RLCS team jerseys.
The tournament sparked strong engagement on social channels and Discord, where players connected, found teammates, and helped build a vibrant community around the event. Beyond celebrating Rocket League’s decade milestone, the event underscored the growing role of esports in shaping educational and professional pathways for young players.
