Esports has been a powerful tool for student achievement in our program. We combine competition with academics by starting each club meeting with study hall, where students support one another and build discipline. The results have been incredible, one of our esports leaders not only guided our Smash Bros. team to the semifinals but also graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 2024.
Esports also connects naturally to STEM and CTE pathways. From computer science concepts to media production, students gain real-world experience that broadens their career outlook. Some have pursued internships with local nonprofits, shifted college majors, or discovered new interests in areas like robotics, engineering, and live-stream production – all sparked by their time in esports.
Most importantly, esports has helped us connect our students, school, and community. Players have stepped up to share resources, support teammates, and collaborate with other schools. Our program has also used esports streaming skills to broadcast town halls and cultural events, expanding our impact beyond competition. Esports is more than a game for us – it is a way to build community, create opportunity, and inspire lasting growth.
