For me, coaching high school esports is all about creating the right culture. No single coach can provide targeted feedback for every student across multiple titles, and often the players themselves have deeper expertise in their games. That is why I focus on building a culture of discipline, respect, and teamwork, where students help each other improve and succeed. With the right culture in place, any program can achieve success.
Esports also gives students the chance to game with purpose. They can showcase their skills to colleges, pursue scholarship opportunities, and continue competing at the next level. Several of our alumni now play for the University of Michigan and Michigan State’s esports programs. Just as importantly, esports provides students with a community in their school and a sense of meaning that goes beyond the game, creating memories and a legacy they will always be proud of.
